Darwin

Went down to Stokes Hill Wharf for lunch of Barra and chips, yummo. Then on to Crocosaurus Cove where we saw many reptiles and big salties. Touched a baby croc, fed some baby crocs, Nathan held a childrens python, and we saw the big salties getting fed too.

Batchelor to Darwin

Short trip up the road to our next park on Darwin's outskirts. Didn't get up to much, had a look in Darwin along the esplanade and watched numerous F18's roaring through the sky overhead.

Litchfield National Park - Day 2

Hanging out at Litchfield National Park for a second day. Walked from Greenway Creek to Tjaetaba Falls and back. Next was Tolmer Falls (no walking). Then we drove on to Florence Falls and Buley Rockhole which are both popular weekend swimming holes. Stopped at the magnetic termite mounds (they align to magnetic north) and cathedral termite mounds on the way out. The huge cathedral ones have termites that eat grass.

Litchfield National Park - Day 1

Left Bachelor for Lichfield NP this morning. Lots of birds this morning and one rooster that is lucky we don't know where he lives...... Anyway, went off to the further reaches to Walker Creek, where most of the scenery had been burnt, seems a fair bit of the Park has been burnt in recent times. Still managed to find some nice water spots. Moved on to the Cascades which includes upper and lower cascades (which you walk along/crossover) and Curtain Falls, then Wangi Falls after lunch which were great. Turns out we picked the popular long weekend to hang out here, so its fairly busy. Coloured stick free day :) Saw some some lizards and a few spiders.

Katherine to Batchelor

280km drive up the road today to Batchelor on the edge of Litchfield National Park.

On the way we detoured via the beautiful Edith Falls. Also saw some of the local wildlife of the coloured stick variety a little too close.

Katherine Gorge

We booked the 3 gorge boat cruise at Katherine Gorge for the morning. There are 13 gorges all up, on the Katherine River system. We went up the first three, the others are pretty hard to access by boat. Got some great scenery, saw some freshies and a wallaby. It was a lovely 32 degrees today and we finally had an overnight temp of more than minus or low single digits.

Mataranka

Hanging out at Mataranka today, nice 27 degrees. Saw some parrots having a morning chat, then later at lunch we saw them in the tree squawking at the sprinklers. Were in time to feed the barramundi here at the caravan park. Fast, huge things.

We both went for a quick paddle in the river, on the hunt for some freshies. Only one of us is happy we didn't see any.

Afternoon float down river at Bitter Springs, no crocs but a few spiders and floating algae. Pretty spot, good enough to float down river 3 times!
