Coober Pedy

Interesting but scenic wise - bland with many, many piles of dirt as far as you can see. Mining for opals, they don't have to back fill their mining shafts, you need a licence and machinery and stuff though. We did a tour of the town and 'The Breakaways'.

You can't mine in the town boundaries anymore, but if you want to build a house, you can keep your opal that you find! It has a pretty big golf course, but this is the 'green', its sand with sump oil. You also carry around a swatch of turf to tee off.

Underground house
Approx 2/3 of Coober Pedy live in underground houses, the aboriginals wont because of the spirts in the ground. Coober Pedy actually means whiteman burrow.

 I'm not sure on this, just looked like a fence not even really that high - are dingos that dumb?
