Windjana Gorge & Tunnel Creek

Big day of driving today with a 370km round trip (half on gravel) to Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek along the Gibb River Rd for a bit and then the Fairfield/Leopold Rd.  Windjana was pretty and abundant with freshies, one 20m section had at least one freshy per metre! One of us also inspected other wildlife on the walk with olive pythons and fruit bats.

Drove on to Tunnel Creek, where at the start you climb over some bolders into the darkness of the 'tunnel'/cave. Then you get to wade several times in pitch dark through above knee cold water. Made a change for the dusty 36 degree heat! Interesting tunnel, with one collapsed giving us brief daylight. It apparently has 5 species of bats in there, we saw some but our torches weren't strong enough to see the roof in some parts.

We are sure they have a proper scientific name, but when we started seeing these below termite mounds a few days ago, the soil colours were brown, so we gave them our own name.
